Addendum to the Consultations on the CAP and BCAP Codes

01 June 2009

Code Review documentsThe Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP) and the Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice (BCAP) have launched an addendum to each of the CAP and BCAP Code Review consultation documents.

As part of the Department of Health’s 2008 Safe, Sensible, Social consultation, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport asked CAP and BCAP, as part of the CAP and BCAP Code Reviews, to take into account the findings of the Independent Review of the Effects of Alcohol Pricing and Promotion conducted by Sheffield University (‘the ScHARR Review’).  This review was subsequently published too late for CAP and BCAP to consider as part of the Code Review process and, with the Secretary of State’s agreement, they agreed to publish their analysis and consult on their findings separately.

CAP and BCAP have now had the opportunity to consider the findings in the ScHARR Review which relate to advertising and are issuing an addendum to each of the CAP and BCAP Code Review consultation documents; each addendum contains a question for consultees to consider.

In order to put these addenda into context, they should be read alongside the Introductory sections (Part 1) of the CAP and BCAP Code Review consultation documents.

CAP and BCAP welcome a response from anyone who is interested in the Codes.  The consultation documents and the addenda are available on the CAP website. The deadline for responding to these additional questions has been extended to 5.00 pm on Friday 10 July 2009.
